Did you read the article about the new road for cars on the north side? The one in yesterday's paper?
- Sibel
Yes, and honestly I'm of two minds. On one hand it relieves the city center; on the other it takes up space that the park needed.
- Dennis
I see it differently: traffic stands still every morning now, and that costs everyone time and nerves. With the bypass that would be over.
- Sibel
That may be true, but the studies the article cites say that new roads attract new traffic. After two years it would be just as full.
- Dennis
I know that effect, no question. Still, I believe you can have both: the road and the park, if you plan the area smartly.
- Sibel
Woran denkst du konkret? Der Artikel hat ja keine Alternativen beschrieben.
What are you thinking of specifically? The article didn't describe any alternatives, after all.
- Dennis
For example a tunnel section like in Hamburg. More expensive, yes — but the park would be completely preserved, and traffic would still be out of the city.
- Sibel
That sounds like a compromise I could imagine. Whether the city has the money is another story entirely.
- Dennis
True, and the public participation takes a year anyway. A pity that such a project always takes so long.
- Sibel
I actually think the participation is good. If people can have a say beforehand, they're more likely to accept the outcome.
- Dennis
You're probably right about that. Should I send you the article? There was a graphic comparing the options.
- Sibel
Sehr gern.
Very gladly. And if you like, we'll go to the info event on Thursday — then we'll form our final opinion.
- Dennis
Abgemacht, Donnerstag.
Deal, Thursday. The first time we're allowed to look forward to a local road construction meeting.
