- Nele
So, I thought the film was brilliant. The images alone! Those long shots over the sea — that was pure cinema.
- Tarek
Honestly, I'm in a completely different place on that. The film bored me. Two hours in which almost nothing happens is not art to me, but an imposition.
- Nele
Just because no action happens doesn't mean nothing happens. All the decisions are made in the glances, not in the deeds.
- Tarek
I can follow that, and the acting was undeniably strong. But the director confuses pace with depth. You can be quiet and still move forward.
- Elena
I think I lie between you. The first hour gripped me, then the symbolism ran itself to death. The image of the open window didn't have to appear in every scene.
- Nele
But the window is the core! It stands for the chance she never seizes — that's why it appears whenever she hesitates again.
- Tarek
And that's exactly my problem: if a symbol appears in every third scene, it's no longer a symbol but a subtitle.
- Elena
Admittedly, that's sharply put. But did the ending at least surprise you? I thought she stays, and then she does drive off.
- Tarek
What surprised me was rather that there was an ending at all. The conclusion was so neatly resolved that it almost contradicts the film we saw before it.
- Nele
Interesting — I found the ending the most honest part. She doesn't drive off because she's free, but because she's afraid of staying. That's not a happy ending, that's flight.
- Elena
Seen that way, the ending was the only moment where the film breaks its own principle. Possibly that irritated us because it was honest.
- Tarek
Now that you put it that way … no, I stand by it: boring. But I'm happy to keep discussing as long as the coffee is still hot.
- Nele
Abgemacht.
Deal. Then we'll order more and keep arguing — for a film that bores you, it's occupying you for quite a long time.
