Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer (DTZ) · B1
B1about 135 min totalThe exam at the end of the integration course — the certificate that matters for settlement and naturalization in Germany.
- The DTZ closes the Integrationskurs — the state integration course most newcomers to Germany attend.
- It certifies either A2 or B1. B1 is the one that counts: it is required for the settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) and, with the naturalization test, for citizenship (Einbürgerung).
- Real exam structure: Hören und Lesen together (90 min), Schreiben (30 min), and Sprechen as a pair exam (about 15 min).
- There is no failing outright: below B1 you get an A2 certificate. But only B1 unlocks the residence outcomes — aim for it.
